My daily walk to work, takes me north to south over the Christy Ring Bridge (path on eastern side), crossing Lavitt’s Quay in front of the ‘Kilkenny’ shop and onto Emmett Place. For several years now, I noticed a very dangerous out-of-sync timing issue with the lights there and I have witnessed numerous near tragic incidences. This morning such an incidence happened to me, which has prompted me to finally report the issue.
The issue is as follows: While waiting to cross Lavitt’s Quay in front of the ‘Kilkenny’ shop, traffic passes from west to east along Lavitt’s Quay. When the green light signals for pedestrians to cross, more often than not there are still several cars still completing their traverse west to east along Lavitt’s Quay. I have seen countless instances where pedestrians, immediately on the green signal, step out in front of the still traversing traffic. The frequency suggests that it is more than an issue of vehicles ‘breaking the amber light’ at the traffic light on the western side of Christy Ring Bridge.
Obviously the time between the vehicular red signal on the light at the west side of Christy Ring Bridge, does not leave enough time for cars to complete the distance to the traffic light at the east side of Christy Ring Bridge before the green pedestrian signal is shown.
I would very much appreciate if you would investigate this issue, and prevent, what I feel, is an imminent tragedy occurring.
